Genano participated in a ministerial visit to United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in early November. The visit was led by the Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, Lenita Toivakka. The delegation consisted of Finnish companies and representatives from Finnish ministries, embassies, educational institutes and Finpro.
– The visit was a valuable opportunity to learn how the local healthcare system is organized. I was pleasantly surprised by the extremely high level of education and know-how, and the use of modern technology. The healthcare sectors in Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are forerunners in using new technology and are willing to test and pilot new solutions, says Klaus Nissinen, Vice President & International Sales at Genano Ltd.
In both countries, the delegation met with Ministry of Health representatives and had a networking event in the Finnish embassy.
Companies focused on health care visited several hospitals, including the leading hospital of Saudi Arabia, the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre. The hospital provides the highest level of specialized healthcare in an integrated educational and research setting and specializes in oncology, transplantation, cardiovascular surgery and medical genetics.
– In the hospitals, the comfort and well-being of patients and staff was a high priority, Nissinen says.
The visit also included a meeting with the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), a large hospital chain in United Arab Emirates and one of the largest employers in the Middle East with a staff of more than 15 500. The delegation also met with Abu Dhabi Health Authority (HAAD) which is the regulative body of the healthcare sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
At the King Saud University, the delegation had the opportunity to learn how the local university hospitals are included in the healthcare system and how doctors are educated in Saudi Arabia.
During the visit, Genano took the chance to meet with its local distributors, who have been building isolation rooms in the hospitals of Saudi Arabia with Genano Technology to prevent spreading of the MERS virus. Genano units are now recommended for use by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Health.
– I am extremely thankful for Minister Toivakka, and all the people involved in the arrangements for arranging this visit. It opened significant doors for us. These kinds of export efforts are very important for Finnish companies, says Nissinen.
– We should be more proud of our Finnish expertise. It was a pleasure to notice that the participating companies were extremely professional and passionate about their business, says Nissinen.
